Positioned just off Crookston Road in the southside of Glasgow Crookston Medical Centre was completed in 2000.
The current patient list is just over 4900 patients. It is a purpose built design with 8 consulting rooms and 3 rooms for attached staff including a Treatment Room for our 2 Practice Nurses, a Health Visitor room and an administrative office for our District Nurses.
Built as a third-party development project the facility houses eight GPs (three in training), two part-time practice nurses and a practice manager, with space for other visiting staff – for example podiatrists, dieticians and community pharmacists - based at the medical centre.
Dr William Graham is the Senior Partner in the Practice and here outlines the the ethos of the Surgery:
“The practice commenced in 1998 from its original base in Hillington and we still have a large number of patients from Cardonald, Hillington, Ralston and Penilee in our Practice. We moved to Crookston Medical Centre in December 2000 and we became a training practice in 2001.
Since then we have taken on a large number of specialist trainees and qualified doctors at an early stage of their careers. We have increased the permanent number of doctors to five, doubled our administrative team and nursing staff, and have significantly expanded our practice population over the last 14 years.
There's also been a significant demographic shift with a much younger patient population due to the proximity of the new housing estates.
We have an excellent Practice Manager who has made a big difference to administrative arrangements and financial structure of the practice.
We have attached staff on site - district nurses and health visitors – and offer child health surveillance and immunisation clinics, which has been a big boost for our patients and for the primary health care team.
We have a good relationship with community midwives who are based in Pollok and our methadone-prescribing clinic is staffed by a drugs counsellor from the local Community Addiction Team.”
Erine Don is our Practice Manager and comments:
“We have an excellent base to practice from – there is plenty of storage space, there's enough room for mothers to bring their prams in to the building and we have very good disabled access.
We continue to offer a wide range of clinical services for our patients and the extra room has enabled us to offer a high quality training environment for young doctors, nurses and medical students
The hard work and loyalty of our reception staff has enhanced the level of care we have been able to provide for our patients. We have received many favourable comments on the courtesy and willingness of our staff to help and hopefully ensure that the patients receive good access to the clinical services at Crookston Medical Centre ”
